Early Access Review

Rift wizard has a bit of a steep learning curve and a reasonable degree of difficulty even for veterans. But if you can look past that- or even better, if you enjoy that- this is one of the most interesting traditional roguelikes on the current market. It's extremely innovative with the way it handles the character's progression, allowing a variety of strategic upgrade options all at once rather than gated behind trees or other forms of scarcity. This isn't my cup of tea, per say, but it's executed so well that even somebody like me was able to find joy and value in exploring the decision space it opened up. It's also nice that the special gamemodes add extra challenges which force more innovation and introduces that sort of scarcity, for when I am missing it. The game is interesting tactically as well, with resource management and efficiency considerations meaning that even during the easier parts of the game, I am incentivized to optimize and take interesting risks.
