The Great Gatsby tries to be satire of many things, but lacking conviction and a clarity of purpose, fails to convey any effective themes or meaningful reading experiences. The book is so structured around trying to portray things sympathetically, non-sympathetically, and so on and so forth makes it hard to keep track of what the nature of the central conflicts within the story even are. Still, the book is very interesting for its historical value and perspective.
