It baffles me how this story has embedded its way so deeply into our collective cultural consciousness. At this point, I almost feel that the only thing keeping it alive is a constant supply of animated and film adaptations supplied gradually by a horrific IV drip. Not only is this one of the most mindless and arbitrary stories of all time, but it is inaccessible to children due do its slow pace and to adults due to its simplicity. A Christmas Carol is a best forgotten story in our changing modern world.
