Cohost shut down in 2024

A People-Oriented Bulletin Board

threads.net suspension indicator for mstdn.social

sigh
mstdn.social became, for me, fundamentally useless as both a social platform and as a way to engage with my favorite artists. Out of sheer ideological merit, I figured I’d give it a chance, but… Reading about the Fedipact and the fundamental motives for it, there’s just… A failure. A sad failure, in terms of technical and legal prowess and commitment to making anything better, even over the years I’ve been there.

No, I’m not doing Bluesky. That’s a worse unmoderated libertarian hellscape than whatever we’ve got on mastodon. Facebook doesn’t have people or creators I like. Instagram is too focused on a particular domain to be an effective social platform for me. The reddit blackout didn’t work- but I care about specific people, not subjects, anyway, so it was also just a poor fit… Discord is at least useful but it doesn’t afford any consolidated feed like I would want.

I think I might just… Give up?

Like… I don’t need to be on social media. Historically, the time investment was worth what I got out of it, either as a way to keep track of folks socially or, principally, content creators focusing on various media I wanted to stay up to date with. But that’s just a nice to have. It isn’t fundamental to me living my life.

The internet of the last two decades is dead at last. Whatever’s crawling out of this desiccated husk… We’ll manage. We have to.

I’ll hold out for cohost, since they’re the “last bastion” in my eyes. They haven’t done anything wrong, and they can only get better. For following artists… I’ll do some more research on Boorus, maybe. The rest? I just… I don’t have the time for this anymore. I don’t have the energy.

Welcome to the new world. :eggbug-uwu:
