A simple, satisfying two player strategy game. The learning curve is not very steep, but the skill cap is famously high. As a consequence, it is not easy to find a partner of a roughly equivalent skill level without expending considerable effort. Chess is set up the same every time, leading to some similarities between games, but in general chess can tend to present a lot of different puzzles and scenarios. Thematically chess is rather dull, although the pieces can tend to be pretty depending on the set.
