Ascension was my introduction to deck building games and as such will always hold a special place in my heart. The game suffers from factional mechanics and synergies not being immediately obvious to new players, and a disproportionate advantage from memorizing specific cards within the deck. Still, compared to other deck-builders, Ascension has phenomenal pacing.
