Cassidy's List of Agreeable Policies

<-- Blog

“Agreeable issues” are things that are:

  1. Completely uncontroversial
  2. Benefit everyone
  3. Low risk

Super Agreeable Issues

  1. FedNow adoption for payment processing
  2. Simplify taxes

Mostly Agreeable Issues

I know some fringe groups will really hate some of these… But…

  1. Fluorinate the water
  2. Automate dangerous jobs
  3. Switch to metric
  4. End time-zone
  5. Prosecute prediction market operators
  6. Prosecute residential proxy operators
  7. Money out of politics

And that’s it. It’s surprisingly hard to get everyone rowing in remotely the same direction.

Things like “money out of politics” are tricky ‘cause like… How do you enforce that? The thing about money is that it’s extremely liquid, you know? But at the same time, it’s actionable enough in so many ways that it makes sense…

Some things that I really wanted to make the list, but couldn’t justify:

  1. Extend civil rights to all humans (extremely controversial ‘cause folks be evil)
  2. More cameras (if everyone captures evidence of crime and innocence there’s less bull-crap in courts, but “surveillance state” lol)
  3. Invest in public infrastructure (people really hate the poor)
  4. Invest in police training (I’m ex-police-abolition… So I know people hate this idea)
  5. Anti-corruption enforcement (who watches the watchman?)
  6. Automate logistics (I hear the trucker’s union is quite fierce)
  7. Broader sports-gambling crack-down
  8. Stronger building codes (I know we have a housing shortage but we’ll make it worse if we build like Japan did)
